The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm is the upcoming seventh Korean extended play and thirteenth overall by South Korean girl group Red Velvet. The EP will be released by SM Entertainment on March 21, 2022.

Background and release

[edit]

Red Velvet first hinted they would be making a comeback at SM Entertainment's New Year's concert, SM Town Live 2022.[1] On February 18, 2022, an official from SM revealed that the group is preparing a new album aiming for a March release.[2] Before the group's comeback, the group will hold a special live called 2022 The ReVe Festival: Prologue at the SK Handball Stadium in Seoul Olympic Park from March 19–20.[3] In particular, The ReVe Festival 2022, which begins anew with the extended play (EP), is the group's music festival, in which ReVe takes its name from Red Velvet, which means "dream" and "fantasy" in French.[4] After releasing three albums in order in 2019, the group will perform various music activities, including albums and performances.[5]

On March 2, it was announced that the group would be releasing a new EP titled, The ReVe Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm.[6] The EP features six songs in a variety of genres, including the single "Feel My Rhythm".[7] By March 7, a schedule poster was released through the group's various social media accounts, containing a variety of content opening schedules related to the EP.[8] Starting from March 8, teaser images of the group were then sequentially released.[9] The EP is set to be released on March 21.[10]

Composition

[edit]

"Feel My Rhythm" is a pop dance song incorporating string-like melodies and intense trap beats on classical elements featuring a sample of "Air on the G String".[11] The lyrics provide a lively tour of time and space along with the song.[12] "Rainbow Halo" is an R&B pop dance song featuring restrained clap sounds and a refreshing and subtle bell sound over a groovy bass and features Red Velvet's "languid" and "dreamy" vocals.[13][14] "Beg for Me" is an R&B pop dance song that expresses the figure of skillfully dominating the opponent who begs with everything to himself.[15] It features strange tension of the chic vocals that unfolds as if being pushed along with the rhythmic and dynamic song development.[16] "Bamboleo" is a retro pop dance song with a rhythmical bass and electronic guitar performance combined with dreamy EP and synth sounds.[17] Like the title, which means "shaking" in Spanish, the lyrics depict dancing all night freely immersed in one's alone time while looking into the mirror.[18] "Good, Bad, Ugly" is a medium-tempo R&B song that features a rhythmic brass sound over a groovy shuffle rhythm and a sensuous chord progression.[19] The lyrics liken life's unpredictable moments to choosing one of the numerous chocolates in a box, containing a positive message to look forward to and enjoy.[20] "In My Dreams" is a slow-tempo R&B ballad song based on minimal trap rhythms with the orgel signature sound at the beginning and end of the song and the "energy-bursting" composition in the chorus.[21] The lyrics express the desire to be together forever with the person you love, even in a dream, along with the song's mournful atmosphere.[22]
