In all honestly, I feel that's what I really wanted to do. sheesh, animation took a nose dive from previous episode. Everyone in this forum is sucking Mappa's dick.
Guys we have to criticize without any biasing. Mappa did an ok job, but i'm fucking pissed off by there ost selection. why can't they play the original 0sk instead of the one we got in this episode. Before anyone come at me, please listen to 0sk of S3P2 and compare it to the one we got in this episode, it's a downgrade. Someone please fire Yamamoto, he is just bastardizing Sawano's tracks at this point.
For those who come at me with "be grateful that AOT get this adaptation" or "I prefer Mappa's look over Wit", stop being delusional. Mappa is not making any effort to improve upon the source material, they just wanna get this over with. At least that's the feeling I'm getting from this adaptation.

there has been no character animation like the one we've gotten in this episode so I'm not sure where your eyes have gone too

we also got a cut by a famous character animator (Takahashi) for grisha's breakdown scene and that looked even more fluid then the best of JJK, confirmed that you're blind af

also tfw you realize that the one in charge for mixing the OST's is the same guy from the previous 3 seasons

and the fact that most of the OSTs used in this episode were sawano's proves you don't have ears either

Character models are fine but the character animation is not good, sure some cuts were really nice, but rest of the time it felt stiff af. 0sk used here is not the same as that in s3p2, listen carefully during the scene where Eren kisses Historia's hand at the ceremony. I never complained about ost mixing. but i do have my qualms about sound direction though. Ost usage feels way off than the first 3 seasons. i don't know what happened maybe it got to do with the director.

They always referred to this as his FATHER'S sin but it's actually his own. WHAT

That's why he looked so shocked when he kissed Historia.
Do you remember when she said "I don't hate you, in the end it was your father who killed my family, it's not your fault"??

The moment of the kiss is where Eren's entire demeanor changed. That's when he became depressed and fatalistic.

The question now is if everything has really been written from the beginning. Did Eren see the memories of his father when he kissed Historia's hand or did he also see his future self provoking it?

Eren is definitely able to share only selected memories. So it seems that he doesn't know the whole future, but is also only presented with snippets that his future self has set and that he sees through his father's memories, for example. He himself cannot send the memories to himself, so when he kissed Historia's hand, he saw his future self's memories in his father's memories. I think it would take too long to go through all the scenarios, since it is also a paradox. Because there should have been a point somewhere where someone started forging the future. Someone who makes the decision to let Historia and her father live to make sure Eren will kiss her hand to receive the memories. After all, there must have been an Eren who went through a completely different timeline than the one the current Eren is headed into. I have the feeling that Eren is also being manipulated by himself from the future. A time paradox is such a brain-melter.

Just an amazing episode from start to end. It was interesting to see Zeke being proven wrong about Grisha again and again, while Eren basically says he has daddy issues. The scene in the royal family hideout was perfection. Seeing Eren basically manipulate his dad to kill the royal family and take the founding titan was great, even if I'm not fully sure how the whole "changing the past" thing is supposed to work.

The first chapter of the manga also has Grisha looking at the door while showing the key to Eren. WIT removed this from the anime which I obviously don't appreciate.

Interesting episode, there's some time traveling shenanigans going on around here now, I like it. So Eren's dad wasn't going to do it at first but Eren convinced him to do it.

Frieda sure sounded like a cultist with her "we deserve this punishment" thing, no you don't, the fuckups of your previous ancestors should stay in the past, you have nothing to do with their "punishment" so none of you should be paying the price for it so I don't agree with her mentality.

Anyway, Eren in this picture look like he came out straight from Baki:

I...... have no words........
Never has Attack on Titan made me glued to my seat this much. I loved everything about this episode. When Grisha somehow managed to see the adult Zeke in his dream, it was kinda suspicious. Then they showed everything about how Grisha carried out his plan inside the walls.

His confrontation with the Reiss family and him being unable to kill the children was the major plot twist here. When Eren told him to stand up, I swear I got chills. MAPPA completely blew this out of the water.
THIS. THIS DAMN FACE. This was the start of quite possibly the greatest plot twist I have ever seen in anime.

I seriously cannot wait for the next episode. MAPPA I bow to you. 11/10 episode.

Yep, true that, she got brainwashed with that mentality with that vow to renounce war thing, can't blame her either, that mentality was probably going against her will too so she couldn't help it.

Anyway, for those of you that haven't noticed, this "time traveling" thing was already in process since the very first chapter of this manga, take a look:

This happened right after Mikasa woke Eren from his dream, Eren even say that Mikasa's hair has gotten longer and Mikasa hair is short in S4 so the mangaka already decided to implement time traveling since the start. Eren was also crying after he woke up so yeah, something tragic will happen, I mean, we all know tragic stuff always happens in AOT so nobody should be surprised on this one.

Even if you were a horrible parent you should never continue to be one. Grisha learned from his past and tried to be better, but that is not what Eren needed. The Attacks ability to see future memories is probably one of the most amazing and unique powers and one of my favorites.
Eren telling Grisha that he needs to "Move Forward" even if he dies, even after he dies is such a chilling moment and Yuki Kaji once again delivered a perfect line!

Last week I said "this is my favorite AoT episode" and now I must give that title to this one! I expect to do the same next week!

No no no, my little doomers. That's not what it is. What it is, is you thought yourself mature, when in reality, all you are is sticklers. Boring party poopers that rate their anime by pulling out a sheet and subtracting points from the ep as it goes on, thinking that is somehow the reality of the situation.

Did this episode have problems? Absolutely.

What you fail to understand is the episode is still a 10 with all those imperfections.

Well, how can i say it.... the episode itself was incredible (duh) but the animation/art really ruined my enjoyment, especially in the second half, Eren and Grisha looked really weird most of the time.

This might be the first season 4 episode which i struggled to like, part 1 never had issues like this.

It's a shame since this is one of my favourite manga chapters but what's done is done.

On a more positive note the preview looks actually pretty good.
Wtf dude the second half was absolutely fantastic design wise wat ru on abt?
I was worried abt how they gonna adapt the faces in the cave scene and they didn't disappoint at all. And grisha's Va did the breakdown masterfully.

So Eren is becoming an antagonist as he becomes more of a psychopath, he wants to avoid the Eldian extinction, but at the same time, hes willing to sacrifice his friends and allys if it means he could kill his enemies, while he does not care about the deaths of his fellow soldiers previously.

But lets be real, none of that matters, because Eren just wants to massacre the Marleyans.

But does Eren still wants to see the world or have any curiosity for it?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Now I'm supposed to wait for 7 days to watch what happens next wtf? First there's that mind fucking cliffhanger of demon slayer on Sunday, I barely recovered from that and now I see this and I have gone insane now help.

After Zeke and Eren touch their heads together, they are inside their father's memory. We see kawai smol Eren at the start of the episode, it looks like a normal happy family scene, they don't know what's going to come next.

Zeke hates his father with everything but after actually seeing his memories and what he went through, Zeke's mindset is starting to change. Zeke thinks Grisha loved Eren more than him and he postponed the restoration mission until Eren grew up.

Zeke is shocked to see how much Grisha loves Eren when Grisha never acted like a loving father to him. Feels bad man.

Zeke is again shocked to see Grisha muttering "I'm sorry Zeke" in his sleep and then IDK how but Grisha is able to see Zeke? Damn, these paths work in mysterious ways.

Now, Zeke and Eren have been wandering in Grisha's memories for 9 years, Zeke finally comes to understand that Eren was never brainwashed by Grisha in the first place, Zeke wonders why did Eren betray him in the first place.

"Rather than letting someone streal my freedom, I'll steal their's first"
Damn Eren. And then Eren proceeds to roast his bro.

Zeke is still set on carring the euthanization plan, he says it was because of Grisha that he is going to save the world from Eldians and before Zeke "saves" the world, he wishes to save Eren.

I still understand how Grisha is able to see present Eren. And it seems like whatever Grisha did was not because of his own will but he was sort of persuaded by present Eren to do so. It's scary how present Eren was staring at his dad. I don't understand if Eren loves or hates his dad.

Zeke's reactions while watching the memories perfectly describe our viewer's reaction as well and I love it.

Why does Grisha look so troubled after he leaves the house?

We then see Grisha requesting the girl who holds founding titan to save them, she looks like she will help them but the king's vow or something takes over and she starts saying exactly what Zeke believes in too, "To save the world, we must accept our ruin", and Zeke agrees, mayne because he too is bound by king's vow? IDK.

Eren is furious after hearing what the girl said, man he looked scary there.

This whole concept of saving the world is quite fucked up, "If we remain ignorant and accept the world's hatred, it's only us Eldians who need to die." Man Eren's fucking furious, he looks ready to kill the girl spouting non-sense.

Now a very important info is disclosed, I don't think we were told this before. Grisha says he knows he can't control the founding titan's powers and that there are total 9 titans with their own special traits. Now the revelation, "The Shingeki no Kyojin can glimpse into the memories of its future inheritors." WTF. This means Grisha has already seen what Eren has faced and that maybe Eren has already seen the future by looking into the memories of his titan's inheritor? WHAT?

Grisha says that the people of royal blood can't use the founding titan's power completely either and now he's gonna end the royal bloodline and steal the founding titan from them but to our and Zeke's suprise, he is unable to at first, but then Eren reminds him why he's doing all this, to avenge his little sister etc.. and Grisha ends up stealing the founding titan. It was afterall Eren who persuaded Grisha to kill them, it means if Zeke hadn't taken Eren in Grisha's memories, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. The tear-fest began from this scene. Those dialogues, scenes, everything was so powerful, I couldn't help but get teary-eyed.

What was that black-background scene? Where Eren kisses someone's hand?

Zeke is fucking shocked to see that Grisha didn't kill them out of his own wish, Zeke kept hating his father but is really shocked when he realizes that it wouldn't have happened unless Eren didn't persuade Grisha.

Seems like Zeke has finally forgiven his dad and no longer hates him when he realizes he didn't do that of his own will.

It looks like Eren has been controlling everything, Eren forces them to come out of the memories and bam.

The ending man. My head hurts. I'm gonna go watch some other anime asap or I don't know what to do with this cliffhanger ending. The season has just started, just 4 episodes in, there are 8 more episodes to go, I don't think I will be able to take 8 more mind fucking cliffhangers. The way this is going, I won't be surprised if this become the highest rated season of SnK.

And the next episode title man. "From you, 2000 years ago." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

What an episode! Grisha's descent into madness was done perfectly by MAPPA and, Eren played the puppet master role perfectly. Eren reminds Grisha of all his misfortunes in the past and eventually forces him into murdering the Reiss family. The scene with Grisha and Zeke hit me, you can see that Grisha regrets his past mistakes and truly does love Zeke. Lots of twists and turns in this episode. It's Eren's time.

Grisha just being a cliche plot device is just dissapointing. In the end, he had a cardboard personality, indecisive, and spineless.

Fr this just recontextualizes all of reiss cave scenes from the S3 P1, Many of eren's moment, Grisha's backstory, Carla's death etc. Isayama was wild while writing thisπŸ’€

You're going to be all right. You just stumbled over a stone in the road.
It means nothing. Your goal lies far beyond this. Doesn't it?
I'm sure you'll overcome this.
You'll walk again... soon.

This episode gives me chill, Even though there are no action scenes. As a manga reader I really got impressed by MAPPAs job. This whole episode was PERFECTLY executed in anime. No one could have done this ep better than MAPPA

Most of my points have been covered by others by now. But I'll say this: I was so shocked to see Eren fuming with rage in the cave. Holy shit. He was so passive and resigned throughout the entire 4th season.
Frieda was going to sit passively by and let him die and his mom die. Awww hell nah. We get 9 year old Eren about to stab some b*tches up in here. He's still on his side. He's still got the rage. There ain't no way he's going out quiet.

For real. Ngl I was scared but also had a big smile on my face, seeing Eren finally show what he feels like. The hatred in his eyes could burn the world to ashes, as Kruger once said. His pissed off faces in this episode are absolutely priceless. Goddamn freedom-taking royals. I felt what he felt too

Though I feel for Frieda too, since the First King's ideals took over her.

Now that I think about it, by extension, Eren could've influenced Kruger to beat child Grisha, whose sister would then get eaten by dogs, which would make Grisha hate Marley to the core. Thus starting this whole story. Which would mean that EREN was the one who started this story. Holy fuck
